About Me

Nick Leeson: I write this & the numerous entries that are to follow as a Canadian & as a lawyer because that is both my nationality & my trade but, less obviously, I write them as a member of a growing global community deeply concerned about the direction in which the world is moving & as someone who knows that he can do something about it. While my knowledge is far from perfect, I do know the facts, conditions and obstacles to global poverty and social justice better than most. Perhaps the most glaring fact of them all is that, despite all our progress & excess, over 3 billion people subsist on less than $2 a day – conditions of absolute poverty so grim to thaw even the coldest of human hearts. Yet, while nearly everyone who isn’t sleep-walking their way through life seems to know that stark bland statistic, very few seem to truly understand it. I say that because I believe enough in human nature that I’m certain if we did understand both the fuller context & specifics of the suffering behind it, it would elicit global empathy & compassion far beyond the paucity of action we’ve witnessed to this point... Discussion & attention provide us a necessary, if modest, first step. JOIN ME.
